About Aslan Renewables
Across North America, rising electricity demand and growing pressure on the grid are creating an urgent need for dependable clean power. At the same time, thousands of dams, weirs, and other water-control structures sit dormant.
Aslan Renewables was founded to unlock this overlooked hydropower potential. We are building a new generation of small hydro that can bring reliable, low-impact electricity to communities while making better use of the waterways and infrastructure that already exist.
Backed by leading clean-energy investors and partners, and working alongside First Nations, utilities, and local communities, Aslan is entering an important stage of growth. We are bringing our first commercial systems to market and working toward a future where distributed hydro plays a much larger role in delivering clean, resilient baseload power.
The Role
We’re hiring a Civil Engineer to redefine the discipline for the world of hydropower.
Aslan is building one core hydropower product. This role will focus on the interface between that product and the site, finding practical ways to assess locations, adapt the system when needed, and prepare deployments without allowing civil work to become unnecessarily bespoke.
This role sits at the intersection of civil engineering, product development, and field execution. You’ll help move our early deployments through design and construction while turning what we learn into standard details, tools, and adaptation solutions. You’ll also help us make better use of GIS, LiDAR, survey data, imagery, and other remote-assessment tools so that more decisions can be made earlier and with less time in the field.
You’ll work closely with the senior leadership, external engineering partners, surveyors, contractors, and the broader Aslan team. This is an intermediate role with meaningful technical ownership and the support of a seasoned engineering leader. Over time, you’ll become an important internal source of judgment on civil design, site integration, and constructability.
What You’ll Do
You will help deliver the civil scope for Aslan’s early commercial deployments while turning field learnings into a standardized approach for the hundreds of sites that follow.
In this role, you will:
- Take ownership of day-to-day civil and site-design work, with guidance and review from the senior leadership team.
- Translate site information into practical layouts, access plans, anchoring, installation requirements, and construction sequencing.
- Develop civil interfaces and adaptation solutions that allow Aslan’s core product to be deployed efficiently.
- Improve how sites are assessed using GIS, LiDAR, survey information, terrain data, imagery, and other remote inputs.
- Help evaluate site viability through the lens of constructability, access, cost, and deployment risk.
- Work with external civil engineers, surveyors, contractors, and technical vendors to develop and challenge proposed solutions.
- Support the civil workstream from early assessment through design, construction readiness, installation, and commissioning.
- Resolve civil and site issues as they emerge and carry those lessons into future designs.
- Turn early deployment experience into standard details, design rules, decision tools, and reusable civil solutions.
- Develop and maintain site plans, drawings, specifications, assumptions, and technical records.
- Look beyond traditional civil engineering for ideas, drawing from adjacent industries and translating proven methods into practical solutions for Aslan’s deployments.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for a practical and inventive civil engineer who is interested in shaping how civil engineering supports a new kind of infrastructure product.
The ideal candidate can work independently, develop a clear technical point of view, and collaborate confidently with experienced contractors and engineering partners. They are curious, open to new approaches, and have an interest in shaping civil engineering as an integral part of the product.
You should bring:
- A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Approximately 3–6 years of relevant civil engineering experience across design, site development, infrastructure, or construction.
- Practical experience supporting projects through design, construction, installation, or commissioning.
- Proficiency with civil and geospatial tools such as Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and GIS, with experience interpreting surveys, terrain models, LiDAR, aerial imagery, and other site data.
- A solid understanding of grading, drainage, foundations, anchoring, access, constructability, and installation planning.
- The ability to work confidently with consultants, contractors, surveyors, and technical partners, supported by clear written and verbal communication.
- Strong spatial, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Curiosity beyond traditional civil engineering and a willingness to work across adjacent technical and operational problems as the product evolves.
- Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada, or progress toward obtaining a P.Eng., is an asset.
- Experience with water infrastructure, hydraulic structures, large-diameter piping, industrial sites, or related civil systems would be valuable.
Why Join Aslan
Aslan is at a defining moment, where early deployments will shape the product behind a new category of distributed clean-energy infrastructure.
We are venture-backed and supported by leading partners, including Antares Ventures, MaRS IAF, UCeed Energy Fund, and Temasek Foundation. Aslan has been recognized as one of Canada’s emerging clean-infrastructure companies, including being named to BetaKit’s 2026 Most Ambitious list.
You will join a small, highly capable team working on a physical-world problem with meaningful energy, environmental, and community impact. You will have the opportunity to rethink an area of infrastructure that is often treated as inherently bespoke and help build a faster, more product-driven way to bring clean-energy systems into the field.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $75,000–$95,000 CAD, depending on experience.
- Employee stock option participation.
- Comprehensive health and benefits coverage.
- Hybrid work environment in Toronto.
- Three weeks of vacation, plus additional company-wide holiday shutdown and summer paid time off.
- Professional development and mentorship opportunities.
- Meaningful ownership over the development of a new clean-energy technology.
