Aslan Renewables is on a mission to unlock Canada’s dormant hydro power potential. We are now hiring a Director, Engineering to act as a hands-on technical leader, systems architect, and team builder. This role is a strategic partner to the CEO, blending hands-on engineering oversight, technical project leadership, and strategic product development. This opportunity is ideal for a leader who thrives on high-velocity execution and has a track record delivering successful projects. You are not just a manager; you are a force multiplier, a mentor to your team, and the key driver of our technology scale-up.

Responsibilities

Product and Engineering Leadership:

  • Validate Aslan’s hydro system architecture including mechanical, electrical and control systems from pilot implementation to the scale-up phase and final commercial production.
  • Lead technical discussions with external engineering consultants and contractors collaborating with the CEO and Director, Business Operations to ensure commercial excellence and regulatory alignment
  • Own Aslan’s technology roadmap with a keen focus on technoeconomics, scalability and market demand.
  • Oversee the procurement of materials and equipment, optimizing for performance, efficiency and reliability.
  • In partnership with the CEO and external consultants, develop, execute, and refine IP strategy.
  • Review engineering drawings, maintain technical standards, testing protocols and safety requirements.

Project Oversight:

  • Provide technical oversight: ensuring systems meet design intent, grid interconnection requirements, safety standards, and regulatory/permitting requirements.
  • Identify and resolve technical risks across design, installation, and operations.
  • Ensure field learnings are captured and integrated into future system iterations.

Team Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Lead product team’s direction, setting ambitious goals for output and professional development

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work closely with utilities, regulators, and community stakeholders to validate system performance and interconnection readiness.

Must Haves – Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering (or related engineering discipline)
  • 8+ years of engineering design or development experience across hydroelectric systems, renewable infrastructure deployment or similar with track record of successful project delivery
  • Demonstrated ability to switch between being strategic systems architect to hands-on builder across engineering challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to manage third party engineering services firms
  • Experience with procurement and vendor management
  • Strong background in fluid mechanics, electrical systems, and/or power system integration
  • Experience managing and leading engineering teams
  • Familiarity with permitting, safety and regulatory requirements for engineering design and operation
  • Clear and confident communicator who can work across technical and non-technical teams
  • Passionate about sustainability, clean power, infrastructure, and building systems that serve communities
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and in a fast-paced environment

Nice to Haves

  • Registered as a P. Eng is an asset
  • Proficient with tools like Notion, Excel, Google Workspace, and modern project platforms
  • Experience supporting investor relations or board communications

What We Offer

  • Salary: $120,000 – $150,000 CAD

We are now hiring an Operations and Project Coordinator to run our operational engine and help shape our development playbook. You’ll work directly with the Director, Business Operations to manage company systems, coordinate projects, and keep our financial and administrative processes running smoothly in the day-to-day. This opportunity is ideal for a structured thinker who likes to organize, prioritize, and run processes end-to-end.

Responsibilities

Financial Administration & Systems

  • Manage financial operations: accounts payable/receivable, budgeting, and grant reporting
  • Liaise with our fractional bookkeeper for monthly reconciliations and cash flow tracking
  • Maintain financial folders, naming conventions, and reporting templates

Project Coordination

  • Support logistics, scheduling, compliance tracking, and deliverables for project deployments
  • Support regulatory packages and organize drawings, forms, and technical documentation

Operational & Internal Systems

  • Maintain internal tools (Google Drive, Notion, HubSpot, QuickBooks) organized and up to date, building additional capabilities as our operations scale
  • Maintain SOPs, checklists and internal documentation for recurring processes (procurement, regulatory submissions, onboarding)

HR & Administrative Support

  • Manage onboarding/offboarding logistics, benefits administration, and policy documentation
  • Support coordination of hiring logistics and contractor paperwork
  • Maintain organized HR and insurance records

Compliance & Risk Documentation

  • Collect and track certificates of insurance, WCB documents, and permit approvals
  • Support compliance documentation for contracts, funding agreements, and audits

Must Haves – Minimum Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience in operations, business administration, consulting, or project coordination
  • Experience with or exposure to business administration tools such as Hubspot, Asana, Notion, or similar with the ability to quickly learn new software
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and knack for follow-through
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, multitask, and manage time effectively
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and in a fast-paced environment
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

Nice to Haves

  • Exposure to cleantech funding programs (for example, IRAP, NRCaN)
  • Passionate about sustainability, clean power, infrastructure, and building systems that serve communities
